There’s a new Gleb in town.

Max von Essen will take over the role of Gleb in “Anastasia” from Ramin Karimloo, who originated the role and previously announced he would be departing the production on Dec. 3. Von Essen will take over on Dec. 5.

Von Essen comes to the role after starring in the Broadway productions of “An American in Paris,” where he earned a Tony nomination for his portrayal of Henri Baurel. Prior to that, he was in the Broadway revival of “Evita” and the first revival of “Les Misérables.”

He will join original cast members Christy Altomare, Derek Klena, John Bolton, Caroline O’Connor and Mary Beth Peil.

“Anastasia” opened on Broadway on April 24, 2017 at the Broadhurst Theatre. The show is produced by Stage Entertainment, Bill Taylor, Tom Kirdahy and Hunter Arnold.

The show’s book is written by Terrence McNally, with music by Stephen Flaherty and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. The musical’s direction is by Darko Tresnjak.
