“School of Rock” will play its final performance on Broadway on Jan. 20, 2019.
At that point, the musical will have played 1,307 performances and 31 previews at the Winter Garden Theatre. “School of Rock,” produced and composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, had already recouped its capitalization costs in May 2017.
On Broadway, the musical has recently seen waning grosses, regularly bringing in about 50% to 60% of its gross potential.
Beyond Broadway, the musical has a production on the West End and a U.S. national tour, which began in September 2017. Another production will play an extended sit-down run in Melbourne, Australia beginning Oct. 31, 2018, and then tour Asia.
The show opened on Dec. 6, 2015 and was nominated for four Tony Awards, but did not win any.
